I’ve been a member of many local non-profit boards and commissions, but it has been my time on the Board of Directors of the Golden Valley Electric Association that has provided the most valuable education on governance, primarily through the training provided by our national trade group, NRECA (National Rural Electric Cooperative Association). Having a clear understanding of the powers and responsibilities of governance is most helpful.
Unfortunately, NRECA holds their training materials dear (and restricted to NRECA members), I’m unable to share them.
However, there are other documents and resources available on line.
